One of Bangkok’s leading trendsetting posh urban neighborhoods is undoubtedly the Thonglor area.  Playing party host to chic bars, restaurants, and shops the district is further setting the bar even higher for residential offerings. In the latest news Thai-listed real estate development group Sansiri have paired with noted design guru Philippe Starck on a new condo project.

Sansiri has branded the project as Khun by YOO,inspired by Starck. The high-rise tower will be 27 stories and feature 148 condominiums. Looking at pricing, an entry level will start at a cool THB15 million baht  (approximately USD433,000) which is clearly aimed at upscale local and foreign buyers. A sales launch will be out on November 4th to 6th.

While the broad Bangkok market has seen a slow-down in 2016, the upper -end is continuing to flourish, especially in key CDB areas.  Thai developers are continuing to be able to launch and execute high-velocity product launches especially those who have a considerably database of brand loyal property investors.  Pre-sales in Thonglor are becoming commonplace as demand is outpacing the current level of supply.

Though this is Sansiri’s first co-branding with a worldwide name, the recent luxury offering at 98  Wireless Road saw the group tie-up with Ralph Lauren Home to add some star power into the offering.  The YOO collaboration is manifested in the design company which was founded by Philippe Starck and John Hitchcox. On offer are innovative designs of hotels, homes, condominium, and even furniture.

In the region Century Properties in Makati Philippines successfully teamed with Starck and YOO at the Acqua Iguazu residences a few years ago. Currently the addition of “starchitects” into residential projects is an ongoing trend with the common thinking being that the addition of branding will push up pricing points and sales pace.
